If you are considering training your dog with us, please read over the following carefully and contact us if you have any questions or concerns. These policies are put in place for the health and safety of you and your dog. There is also a printable PDF available for download.

Age appropriate vaccinations are
required for all dogs enrolled in any Siriusly K-9’s classes, activities, or
private trainings. Except by documentation from a licensed veterinarian, all
dogs are required to have completed at least three (3) vaccinations in the
puppy series (DHAPP) and have received the Rabies Vaccine, administered by a
licensed veterinarian in accordance with Michigan law, by five (4) months of
age. Thereafter, all dogs are required to be current on the DHAPP Annual
Booster, DHAPP with Lepto is optional, and current on Rabies Vaccinations. The
Bordatella (Kennel Cough) is optional, but highly recommended.
Proof of vaccination records are
required by the start of the first class, private session, or Siriusly K-9’s
activity. Any dog for which proof cannot be provided will be excused from participating
in classes, private sessions, or activities until such proof can be provided.
Acceptable forms of proof of vaccinations include:
Rabies Vaccination Certificate signed by a
licensed veterinarian
Veterinary invoice which contains Rabies
Vaccination expiration date and/or DHAPP Vaccination date
Health certificates/Adoption Contracts from
Animal Services or Animal Rescue Organizations which contain Rabies Vaccination
expiration date and/or DHAPP Vaccination date
Home administered DHAPP which contains the
dog’s name, date given, and vaccination labels
Canine Health Policy
All dogs are required to be in good
health at the start of any classes, private sessions, or activities. If there
is any question as to the health of your dog, or whether the dog can
participate in any classes, private sessions, or activities, please either
contact Siriusly K-9’s staff or your veterinarian.
Fleas, Ticks, and Intestinal Parasites
Siriusly K-9’s takes every precaution
to ensure our facilities and training areas are free from external and internal
parasites; however, the responsibility to keep a dog free from these
inflictions falls on the dog’s owner, and Siriusly K-9’s is not to be held
responsible if a dog contracts a parasite of any kind. We strongly recommend
owners keep their dogs on flea and tick preventatives and heartworm
preventatives year round.
Female Dogs in Season
Dogs in season may attend classes
provided the owner keeps the dog clean and the dog wears a diaper.
We cannot force you or your dog to participate in class, but keep in mind that you are requesting our services and will get out of the sessions what you put in. Participation isn't just in the class, it's at home too. The more you work at it, the more you will get out of class.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations disrupt the flow of
group classes and, with private lessons, greatly interfere with both the dog’s
training and Siriusly K-9’s scheduling. For that reason, cancellations are not approved.
In the event of group classes, it may be possible to either place you in
another class for the week missed or transfer you to another class at a later
date and/or time. Cancellations of private lessons will result in you still
being charged for the appointed time. Any deviation to this policy is left to
the sole discretion of the Siriusly K-9’s Canine Specialist.
In the event of severe weather or
other unforeseen events that make it impossible to safely hold classes,
Siriusly K-9’s will contact participants either by phone or email and class
will resume the following week.
Refund Policy
After the first class, no refunds will
be issued except on the sole discretion of the Siriusly K-9’s Canine Specialist
presiding over the class.
Equipment Policy
Because every dog is different,
Siriusly K-9’s urges owners not to purchase any specialized training collars or
harnesses without consulting one of our Canine Specialists. Many of these
collars and harnesses can injure a dog if used improperly or are ill fitting.
Required materials and equipment for
the classes are:
Your dog
4 to 6 foot non-retractable leash of nylon,
leather, or cotton (retractable leads will not be permitted in class)
A properly fitted flat collar (you should be
able to fit no more than two fingers under the collar)
At least 3 different types of small treats
your dog likes
Your dog’s favorite toy to be used only for
training
Proof of vaccinations
Course book to be provided by Siriusly K-9’s
on the first day of class
Optional, but recommended, materials
include:
A chew toy to keep your dog occupied during
lecture periods
Training should be fun for you and
your dog. To insure this, Siriusly K-9’s has a strict policy regarding the
abuse, either verbal or physical, to any dog or person enrolled in our classes,
private sessions, or activities. At our Canine Specialist’s sole judgment, any
person witnessed hitting, punching, fighting, or verbally assaulting any dog or
other person may be asked to leave, have training services terminated, and will
not be allowed to return to any Siriusly K-9’s facilities, functions, classes,
private sessions, or activities.
Aggressive Dog Policy
Dogs which attack, attempt to attack,
bite, or attempt to bite any other dog, animal, or person will not be permitted
to remain in group classes or participate in any activities. In this event, the
owner will receive a credit for private behavior modification sessions or the
REACT-ive Dog class. The dog will not be allowed back in group sessions or
activities except by the authorization of the Siriusly K-9’s Canine Specialist
presiding over the class or activity.
In
the event the aggression issue is too severe for Siriusly K-9’s Canine
Specialists to safely handle, the dog, at the Canine Specialist’s discretion,
will be referred to an approved specialized animal behaviorist.
Responsible Dog Owner Policy (Cleanliness)
Part of being a responsible dog owner is cleaning up after your dog if she eliminates. Siriusly K-9’s will provide cleaning materials if your dog has an
accident, and we will be more than happy to hold your dog for you while you
clean it up.
